Have you seen GéNIA’s New Album Trailer?

If you haven’t seen it already, GéNIA’s latest trailer showcases three original compositions on her second EP: Sweet Memories, Mon Amour, and London-Paris. Even if you’ve heard the songs before, the video gives you a great view of GéNIA’s playing that you simply couldn’t get live.

The album is inspired by a cup of coffee, and this is perhaps most apparent on the first of the three tracks, Sweet Memories. It evokes a sense of nostalgia and calm, a sense that is familiar to all of us who like to sit in cafés and to watch the world go by. The second piece, Mon Amour, is slower and filled with more melancholy than the first, reminding us of how it feels to reminisce upon the past, and perhaps even upon what we have lost. This changes as we reach London-Paris; GéNIA’s music has departed from reflection and looks towards the future. It brings a sense of anticipation and possibility; the increase in tempo and dynamics also creating the feeling of the intent and purpose that comes with travel.

Also worth your attention: if you listen closely, you can hear GéNIA conjure up the effect of a chorus during London-Paris – the piano really starts to sound a little like the human voice!

GéNIA Releases New Limited Edition EP – Dreams of Today Thoughts of Tomorrow

Russian virtuoso pianist and composer GéNIA is pleased to announce the release of her new Limited Edition EP, “Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow” on 28th March 2014. This EP contains five piano solo compositions, and is GéNIA’s debut album as a composer.

Publicly known as a classical concert pianist, GéNIA was challenged by the Director of Caffè Nero, Pablo Ettinger who heard GéNIA’s improvisations, to compose something that customers in his Caffè would like to listen to. “I wanted to convey a feeling through my music, one that people experience while having a simple cup of coffee. For some a cup of coffee becomes fundamental and the most important first drink of the day. We often think about our past, present or build plans and hopes for the future, whilst having this cup. For a modern person it becomes a modern day meditation” says GéNIA.

Composed mainly in Paris, whilst GéNIA took a sabbatical in 2013, it is influenced by Parisian culture and the lifestyle. GéNIA’s frequent trips between London and Paris provided the inspiration for a track entitled ‘London – Paris’ and was composed on the Eurostar.

“Coffee with Milk’, ‘Sweet Memories’, ‘Last Dance’, ‘London- Paris’ and ‘Past Love’ have already been performed in various concert halls in London and on BBC London Radio, where GéNIA is a frequent guest, as well as in all the branches of Caffé Nero in the UK.

GèNIA will be playing a series of concerts in support of the EP throughout forthcoming months. The next date is 25 April 2014 at the Wathern Hall, London.

GéNIA Plays ‘While She Sleeps’ by Hayden Parsey

This haunting yet beautiful piano piece was composed by Hayden Parsey and commissioned by GéNIA for her to play. Such were the power of the emotions generated by the music, a cover version was used by Girlguiding UK who produced a powerful 40-second video to promote their Girls Attitude Survey.

Watch GéNIA at one of our Piano-Yoga® Workshops:

from Kings Place to Media Advert

Lovely concert at Kings Place the other night – I was thrilled to be performing music by wonderful composers Max de Wadener, JS Bach, Buzoni, Siloti, Debussy, Cage & Bartsch whilst having an audience of fantastic musicians and composers, including (to name a few): Gabriel Prokofiev, Patrick Nunn, Will Dutta, Richard Harris, Jamie Telford and Hayden Parsey. Thanks to all of you for your creativity and for being such an inspiration!

Meanwhile I was really thrilled to learn that the piece that I commissioned with Hayden Parsey almost 8 years ago was re-produced by the composer and is currently being used in the new advert campaign for the Girl Guides where they tackle the problem of eating disorders for young women and girls:

“Girlguiding UK calls upon the Prime Minister David Cameron to introduce compulsory labelling of airbrushed images to help combat the rise of eating disorders and shape a generation of self confident girls and young women.”

Which brings us to a question: “How much should art influence society?”

Now time for another cup of coffee…

Namaste,
