GéNIA to perform at the National Portrait Gallery for the current exhibition ‘Russia and the Arts’.

GéNIA has been invited to perform an all-Russian programme for the exhibition that is currently taking place at the National Portrait Gallery, entitled ‘Russia and the Arts’.

‘I wanted to see the exhibition before my concert, and must say I was moved to the core, whilst spending my time with the paintings, which were brought specially from the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Not only were the paintings in themselves amazing; the art of Konstantin Korovin and Mikhail Vrubel and many other Russian painters go straight to your heart, and play with your emotions, but the intensity and depth of faces of the musicians, artists, singers, writers, poets, as well as the Russian financiers who supported the arts, accompanied by thoughtful and informative notes, completely transferred me to that era and really represented the side which many in the West call ‘Russian’: the depth, sometimes to the extent of tragedy, beauty and intelligence.

Looking at the faces of Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Shalapin, Tchaikovsky to name a few, every portrait looked profound.

I am very much looking forward to the concert, and hope that, through the music that I am going to play, people will be able to connect more deeply with the Russian heritage. It is a great honour to be performing a Russian programme for this special exhibition, which includes the music of Piotr Tchaikovsky, Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff and my two Russian-based theme compositions.’ says GéNIA

Portraits of famous Russian writers, poets, musicians, actors, art supporters and craftsmanship of Russian painters, accompanied by thought provoking comments, convey the concept of Russian soul, and its creativity. Treasured paintings supplied by Tretyakov Gallery are not to be missed by anyone who is interested in Russian art and culture.

In addition to this, Fazioli pianos will be supplying one of their finest instruments especially for this concert.

I have no words to say how touched I was by my audience and the St James Theatre atmosphere, that made my performing experience truly memorable. I also would like to thank my team of filmmakers, photographers and music production for helping me to organise and capture the evening.

In the next few months we will be releasing videos from the show.

There are a number of small clips available on my Instagram account.

I also want to say special thanks to Jose Hendo Label for providing the most beautiful dress for my performance. The dress was recently featured on CNN and BBC, as it was made from the barkcloth and performing in it, made me feel more rooted and connected with nature.
