GéNIA’s music is played on catwalk by Nikola Conradie Fashions

Nicola Conradie Fashions

GéNIA was delighted to find out that her music was used by the fashion designer Nikola Conradi in her latest catwalk.

In 2012, Nikola participated in her first fashion show in Windhoek, then went on to become a household name in the fashion industry in Namibia as well as winning the Swakara – Namibian Young Designer Award in 2013.

Nikola chose to specialise in garments for the sophisticated, elegant and chic business woman – her early adopters, if you will. Today Nikola Conradie Fashions cc is responsible for quite a number of sensational fashion designs and projects: from cocktail dresses for Miss Namibia contestants, to the outfits for the officials and athletes representing Namibia at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. From being the only international Fashion Designer – and the first ever from Namibian – to showcase at the first Lusaka July fashion event in Lusaka Zambia, and to participating in the Mozambique Fashion Week and the MODA AFRICA in Lisbon, Portugal.

GéNIA does a photoshoot with photographer Maurice Sparrow wearing a garment from an award winning designer Jose Hendo

GéNIA enjoyed wearing a skirt from the award-winning fashion designer Jose Hendo at her latest photoshoot. Jose Hendo label is well known for its eco-sustainable principles and philosophy. Designer’s cloth was featured in CNN with their tree bark cloth collection, the dress form which GéNIA worn at her concert at St James Theatre. http://josehendo.com/

The photographer Maurice Sparrow is a celebrity photographer specialising in portraits. GéNIA enjoyed woking with him as he allowed her to continue doing her work, whilst he was taking her pictures. http://www.mauricesparrow.com/

I have no words to say how touched I was by my audience and the St James Theatre atmosphere, that made my performing experience truly memorable. I also would like to thank my team of filmmakers, photographers and music production for helping me to organise and capture the evening.

In the next few months we will be releasing videos from the show.

There are a number of small clips available on my Instagram account.

I also want to say special thanks to Jose Hendo Label for providing the most beautiful dress for my performance. The dress was recently featured on CNN and BBC, as it was made from the barkcloth and performing in it, made me feel more rooted and connected with nature.

GéNIA to wear barkcloth at her St James Show!

GéNIA is thrilled to announce she will be wearing one of  award winning designer Jose Hendo’s signature bark cloth dresses at her show at St James Theatre on 9th March. Jose Hendo’s ethos of eco sustainable fashion against throwaway culture aligns with GéNIA’s philosophy of holistic music making through the Piano-Yoga® method.

CNN recently featured Jose Hendo’s work and how it was inspired by ancient african cloth creating techniques.

GéNIA and Fashion Designer José Hendo

If GéNIA’s dress caught your eye in the trailer for her latest album, you may be interested to know that it was designed for her, by the multi-award winning José Hendo whose work has featured at Fashion Weeks across the globe.

José Hendo’s work revolves around the principle of sustainable fashion. She does not waste material, and only uses it herself if it is sustainably produced – end-of-line, up-cycled, or organic. As well as remaining ever-conscious of her work’s impact on the environment, José seeks to raise awareness of the environmental effects of the fashion industry herself.

This dress designed for GéNIA, which has a wonderful red complexion, is of a traditional length when viewed from the front, but from behind it carries a shorter more contemporary line. It combines a respect for what we can learn from those before us with recognition of the need to change and evolve – a difficult but essential balance to strike.

The considered approach José Hendo brings to her work complements GéNIA’s own thoughtful style, both in composition and in performance, and brings yet another touch of class to her latest renditions.
