I have no words to say how touched I was by my audience and the St James Theatre atmosphere, that made my performing experience truly memorable. I also would like to thank my team of filmmakers, photographers and music production for helping me to organise and capture the evening.

In the next few months we will be releasing videos from the show.

There are a number of small clips available on my Instagram account.

I also want to say special thanks to Jose Hendo Label for providing the most beautiful dress for my performance. The dress was recently featured on CNN and BBC, as it was made from the barkcloth and performing in it, made me feel more rooted and connected with nature.

GéNIA’s classical cover of ‘Someone Like You’ is due for release 14 February 2016

A CLASSIC TO CLASSICAL

GéNIA MUSIC is delighted to announce the release of a piano version of ‘Someone Like You’ by Russian concert pianist and composer GéNIA.

The voice of Adele shook the world. The fingers of GéNIA and her classical arrangement of ‘Someone Like You’ takes this haunting and emotive melody to a global classical audience. Scheduled for worldwide release for Valentine’s Day,  14 February 2016, this classical piano work preserves and conveys the sonority and emotion of the original.

‘Someone Like You’ is one of the most beautiful love songs that has ever existed and I could not help myself, but to play with its beauty. I very much enjoyed working on this song, trying to preserve its essence and am very grateful to Adele’s and Dan Wilson’s publishers for their official support’.

Recorded on a Steinway & Sons Model D grand piano at Kings Place London and mastered at Metropolis Studios London, this recording demonstrates that beautiful music remains timeless.

The recording is available for pre-order from iTunes.

The recording is also available on GéNIA’s SoundCloud.

GéNIA gives great performance at Soundcheque event

Soundcheque Ltd recently invited GéNIA to play at one of their annual Christmas events. It was an unusual environment for a classical pianist – buzzing with rock and pop artists! GéNIA’s performance went down like a storm. She is very grateful to Yamaha Pianos who sponsored her performance by providing a beautiful keyboard.

‘It was the first time I played keys. I was a bit unsure about this at first, but the touch was so real and the sound was great. And, most importantly, it made me to connect with the audience in the most authentic way! They were amazing! I am now thinking of performing much more in London clubs’ says GéNIA.

GéNIA performed some of her most popular compositions including London-Paris and Mon Amore.

Have you seen GéNIA’s New Album Trailer?

If you haven’t seen it already, GéNIA’s latest trailer showcases three original compositions on her second EP: Sweet Memories, Mon Amour, and London-Paris. Even if you’ve heard the songs before, the video gives you a great view of GéNIA’s playing that you simply couldn’t get live.

The album is inspired by a cup of coffee, and this is perhaps most apparent on the first of the three tracks, Sweet Memories. It evokes a sense of nostalgia and calm, a sense that is familiar to all of us who like to sit in cafés and to watch the world go by. The second piece, Mon Amour, is slower and filled with more melancholy than the first, reminding us of how it feels to reminisce upon the past, and perhaps even upon what we have lost. This changes as we reach London-Paris; GéNIA’s music has departed from reflection and looks towards the future. It brings a sense of anticipation and possibility; the increase in tempo and dynamics also creating the feeling of the intent and purpose that comes with travel.

Also worth your attention: if you listen closely, you can hear GéNIA conjure up the effect of a chorus during London-Paris – the piano really starts to sound a little like the human voice!

Alex Chalk on GéNIA’s Upcoming Stowe Concert

GéNIA at Stowe

If you wonder how GéNIA’s work as a concert pianist, composer, and pioneering creator of the Piano-Yoga® method fit together, you might find an answer by looking at the attitude with which she approaches her projects.

The material featured on her acclaimed ‘Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow’ recordings, performed in full for the first time at Arts at Stowe, was inspired by a cup of coffee –not a rushed cup, but rather one consumed slowly and thoughtfully.  The music itself is a reflection of the mood that might accompany such a drinker.

The sound is tranquil and musing, though not without its flourishes – GéNIA reminds us of her virtuosity with beautiful sections of high cascading notes through the recordings, which most would struggle to imitate.  She moves from the melancholic to the quietly optimistic with subtlety and nuance, but nonetheless with dynamism and emphasis where she sees appropriate.  It is music that has been featured on Classic FM, and throughout Café Nero’s coffee shops worldwide.

GéNIA seeks to produce the compositions’ own thoughtful qualities in her listeners, and something very similar is happening with her work in Piano-Yoga®.  In taking inspiration from Yoga to create a unique musical method, GéNIA has drawn on a discipline with a strong mental and meditative dimension, and as a result Piano-Yoga® is not simply a method for increasing flexibility in one’s hands.  It is a holistic practice; through working on posture it also seeks to change the psychology of performers and the way it feels to perform, with real implications for the sound that pianists are able to produce.

In both cases, it is through a focus on reflective awareness and state of mind that GéNIA has shone, and she brings this same focus to her experimentation with different performance situations, including her appearances in a café at Heathrow Airport where she sought to sooth passengers before setting off on their journeys.

By continuing to pay attention to this important dimension of the musical experience, GéNIA brings us something unique with her ‘modern twist’ on classical music, which will no doubt be on show at her Arts at Stowe performance.

GéNIA Releases New EP ‘Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow Vol.2′

Russian virtuoso pianist and composer GéNIA is pleased to announce the release of her new EP, “Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow Vol.2” on 14 December 2014. The EP contains 6 solo piano compositions, and is GéNIA’s sophomore EP continuing on from “Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow Vol.1” released in March 2014.

Composed mainly in London, GéNIA’s sophomore EP contains 6 pieces inspired by coffee culture. These compositions have been performed at various concert halls in London and other European cultural hotspots. “I wanted to convey a feeling through my music, one that people experience while having a simple cup of coffee. For some a cup of coffee becomes fundamental and the most important first drink of the day. We often think about our past, present or build plans and hopes for the future, whilst having this cup. For a modern person it becomes a modern day meditation,” says GéNIA.

The EP was recorded at Master Chord Studio in London with engineer Raoul Terzi, on a beautiful Steinway & Sons Concert Grand Piano and produced by Hayden Parsey before being mastered at Metropolis Studios by Grammy award winning engineer Tim Young (The Beatles, Michael Nyman, Massive Attack).

GèNIA will be performing a series of concerts at Caffè Nero Heathrow Terminal 2, one of the largest coffee houses in the world, to launch the EP on 14th and 28th December. GéNIA has also been nominated as Caffè Nero’s classical artist of the month.
