Piano-Yoga® is a unique method of piano playing, performing and teaching and is designed for all levels pianists. It has been developed by GéNIA and taught be GéNIA only.
Piano-Yoga® aims to transform piano playing through using specific techniques that incorporate the holistic personal development and well-being of the player.
This multi-dimensional method combines the fundamentals of Russian piano schools with Eastern philosophies, particularly yoga. The aims are focusing your piano practice, improving concentration, building strength in the fingers and hands, establishing good posture at the piano and conquering performance nerves.
Piano-Yoga® radically improves technique and unblocks tension. The method promotes noticeable progress on the piano by utilizing the principles of movement, gravity and breathing thus creating a more organic approach towards piano playing. It can also be used as a stress management technique.
Piano-Yoga® is represented online at www.piano-yoga.com where free educational resources are provided, such as the Piano-Yoga® podcast series, exercises designed specifically for pianists, performance preparation advice, useful downloads and a members forum. 'GéNIA is one of the most exciting, dynamic
and daring pianists I've met in recent years. Her approach
to the development of piano technique and personal development
are both highly effective and original, combining the Russian
tradition with a modern musical outlook.'
Douglas Finch, Professor of Piano and Composition, Trinity College
of Music
'As a pianist, she is in the world-class, technically and
musically-amazing for someone of her age. But she is also
an excellent teacher as I noticed when I observed her giving
young players the fundaments, and more, of technique, and
preparing them for performances as soloists or accompanists.
She is strict, to the point, but kindly, establishing a sterling
rapport with her students. I can wholeheartedly recommend
her as a teacher.'
Paul Hamburger, ARCM, FGSM, Hon.RAM
GéNIA has been teaching for over 14 years. Alongside a busy artistic career she undertakes educational work by giving master-classes, seminars, lectures and individual tuition. Amongst GéNIA’s students are piano teachers, music students, adult amateur players and a small number of children.
GéNIA has also taught at Trinity College of Music, Dartington and COMA Summer Schools, De Montfort University (Leicester), Lewis University (Peoria, USA), Californian Association of Piano Teachers (CAPMT) in Los-Angeles and EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association) International Conference 2007 in Warwick University.
One of GéNIA's most popular workshops is "How To Overcome Stage-Fright and Make Adrenaline Work for You" where she utilizes the principles of Piano-Yoga®. When last held at the International Classicalive Fair, Olympia, London it was completely oversubscribed.
Considering music to be as much a philosophy as it is an art, GéNIA created Piano-Yoga®, a multi-dimensional method of piano playing, performing and teaching which provides a holistic approach towards playing the piano.
GéNIA’s pupils have gone on to become prize-winners at various competitions as well as nominees for music scholarships in various educational establishments in England, including the Westminster and St Marylebone Schools.
Once a year GéNIA holds concerts by her students in St. Cyprian's Church in London. The concerts are open to the public.
In 2008 GéNIA has been appointed as Artist in Residence at Bauer & Hieber Music, London. It is here she founded the GéNIA MUSIC Piano School, where she gives masterclasses, lectures and individual tuition, with a particular focus on a series of popular Piano-Yoga® workshops.
