‘I have always been fascinated by the nature of SOUND and the effect it has on people. The programme is an encounter with this phenomenon, it explores different and rare areas of sound, including some which have never been heard in concert before. The result is a kaleidoscope of diverse global music: modern, abstract, yet approachable, embracing different traditions and breaking boundaries’
GéNIA

The Innovations music programme was devised and developed by GéNIA.
Through her own discourses with living composers and knowledge of the repertoire, she wanted this programme to show the connection between composers who really use sound in a unusual way.
All these composers create sound worlds that challenge, astonish
and captivate us with their beauty.
Ambient and seamless in design, the programme is another example of contemporary music that is approachable and vibrant.

Inner Mind

Inner Mind
Piano and electronics

Performed at
De Montfort University,
Leicester, UK
ON March 1st, 2004
AT CULTURAL EXCHANGES WEEK

Piano: GéNIA

Featured Composers:
Andrew Hugill, Howard Skempton, Nicolaus A. Hubber, Karen Tanaka, Ton Bryunel.

"During the recording session for Andrew Hugill’s PIANOLITH I had an extraordinary experience. The music seemed to have its own inner mind which gradually took over the performance. With every take I made, my mind became totally free. Andrew Hugill, who was observing me at the time, noticed this state of consciousness. This experience moved me greatly and prompted me to similar qualities in other music. All the pieces in this project are a particular moment I slowed down and seemed to go into an altered related to the deep experience of so-called INNER MIND."
GéNIA.
