GéNIA has been nominated for the Future Classic Women Awards by the Women’s Radio Station

Recently GéNIA has been nominated for & became a finalist in the Future Classic Women Awards by Women’s Radio Station.  It happened as she gave an extensive interview to the wonderful charismatic host, who is also a concert pianist and a voting member of the Recording Academy/Grammy’s, Stefania Passamonte.

They talked  about many things: GéNIA’s new album Babylon, her family history, the current education system, politics (yes, this was also in the conversation!)  and some of the funny moments in GéNIA’scareer.

There are many other amazing women musicians who have been nominated, and, seriously speaking, we truly believe that it is almost impossible to compare original artists, as every talent is unique and this is what makes us all special.

However, if you would like to hear the show and also help GéNIA to win, please listen and share  the recording of the interview from the Sound Cloud below, as the winner will be determined by the amount of plays each interview has received.

You can also nominate your winner by writing to Stefania Passamonte, Women’s Radio Station, 16 Jermyn Street, St James, London, SW1Y 6ST or tweet your nomination to https://twitter.com/@womensradiostn.

Your support is invaluable to GéNIA. Thank you!

GéNIA to take part in ‘Play Piano for the Planet’ 16 April

ClimateKeys is a global initiative with a no-fly policy and has so far triggered over 60 events in 13 countries in which musicians and climate change experts collaborate to lead discussion on action on climate change. ClimateKeys is pleased to create PIANO FOR THE PLANET to support Extinction Rebellion’s mass peaceful civil action commencing on 15th April.

ABOUT THE CLIMATE CRISIS
“Climate change is now reaching the end-game… The issue is the very survival of our civilisation.” Prof Hans Joachim Schellnhuber.

“The facts about our ecological crisis are incontrovertible. We must take action” say notable leaders including previous Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/26/facts-about-our-ecological-crisis-are-incontrovertible-we-must-take-action

2019 is arguably our last chance to drive policy and culture change so as to achieve the ambitious targets set out in the UN’s IPCC 2018 report which describes the enormous harm that anything above a 1.5°C rise in global temperature would cause. It told us that limiting to 1.5°C may still be possible yet requires “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”.

The problem though: we’re not on track. Carbon emissions haven’t stopped rising and temperatures are heading towards 3°C. If we continue on our current course, future changes in climate could be dramatically abrupt and irreversible, seeing mass migrations, crop failures and unprecedented disasters. This is already putting pressures on the ecology, with 200 species going extinct every day due to habitat loss as well as change in climate. A 2018 study of British mammals found that 1 in 5 could be extinct within a decade.

It’s time to increase ways to shift the global narrative and generate the necessary political will.

‘When I was invited to take part in this event I was both, delighted and honoured. My reasons are “Artists these days have far more powerful voices than many politicians and therefore we can make a real difference! The planet needs us more than ever to save it! I personally thank it every day for having all us here, giving us ‘home’ in a real sense and cannot wait to connect with my audience on this special day!” ❤️

GéNIA will be playing her compositions from her new album ‘Babylon’ , especially as the ethos of her new album is so closely aligned with the cause of this event.

New Show is Announced! GéNIA: Babylon

The tickets will go on sale for general public on the 1st April 2019 here

Described by The Times as ‘an outstanding musician’, the Russian born composer and a concert pianist GéNIA has had to announce another show as a result of her sold out performance of ‘Babylon’ earlier this year. The show is celebrating the launch of GéNIA’s new album ‘Babylon’, which is released on the 29 March as a musical reference to the historical period during which the glowing Babylon region progressed to the most advanced level, only to be destroyed by its own residents, those who wish to listen to the album can use the Youtube to Mp3 to download the songs.

By drawing attention to the past, GéNIA hopes that her audience will become more aware of the parallels to events which our society is going through today, in order to prevent the decline of its current highly advanced state.

Two of the pieces from the album enjoyed placements in the critically acclaimed BBC America TV Series ‘Killing Eve’ and the popular British TV Series ‘Cold Feet’.

Acknowledging her cultural inheritance, GéNIA would also like to include in the concert some of the popular classical works which influenced her as a composer, as she strongly believes that beautiful music is always currant, and there is no need to separate classical and contemporary genres for her audience.

An enigma in the music world, GéNIA loves to blur the boundaries between classical and popular music. Her music has been broadcast on Classic FM, BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, BBC Radio London 94.9 and BBC Proms, with London performances at the Wigmore Hall, Barbican, Southbank Centre, Olympia, Kings Place, St John’s Smith Square and St Martin-in-the-Fields, to name just a few.

Date: 9 May 2019/ Time 8:00pm Address: The Other Palace, 12 Palace Street, London, SW1E 5JA Tickets: £20.00 booked via the venue

‘Babylon’ Album Launch & its influences – 21st March 2019, London

GéNIA is delighted to announce the release of her new album ‘Babylon’ on the 29 March 2019 and launch it with a special performance on the 21 March 2019 in Shoreditch, London.

Described by the Times, as ‘an outstanding musician’ and by Gramophone as ‘ a charismatic pianist’, the pianist and composer GéNIA is excited to invite her audience to the trendy and cosy Treehouse loft, located in the heart of Shoreditch, to celebrate the release of her new album ‘Babylon”. GéNIA chose the name ‘Babylon’ for her album as a reference to the historical period during which the glowing Babylon region progressed to the most advanced level, developing culture, art, science, architecture, commerce and other disciplines only to be destroyed by its own residents. Known for its famous wonders of the Hanging Gardens, the highest centre of learning and scientific advancement, outstanding development of the arts and one of the most successful commercial centers, Babylon had fame and fortune for many years. However, citizens of the regions were never satisfied, and wanted autonomy in order to gain more control over their part of the land, and, finally, through continuous wars they managed to demolish this highly developed civilisation and prevent further advancement in the fields of arts and science.

By drawing the attention to the past, GéNIA hopes that her audience will become more aware of the processes, which our society is going though today, and be able to recognise these similar patterns, in order to prevent the decline of the current highly advanced cultural, scientific and economic state which we achieved today, and deserve to be able to celebrate and harness.

Last year, GéNIA released two of the singles from this album; ‘Aphrodite’ enjoyed syncs in the critically acclaimed BBC America TV Series ‘Killing Eve’ and the popular British TV Series ‘Cold Feet’.

The single ‘Babylon’ has proved to be very popular, as it is regularly played on BBC Radio London 94.9, and in all Caffe Nero branches world-wide. Due to popular demand, GéNIA was asked to release its score.

The piece ‘Farewell’ also enjoyed a placement on the BBC America series ‘Killing Eve’.

GéNIA chose to attribute the names from Greek Mythology (Athena, Aphrodite, Gaia) to many of her pieces, giving a symbolic meaning to each piece.

Acknowledging her cultural inheritance, GéNIA would also like to include in the concert some of the works which influenced her as a composer, by performing pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as she strongly believes that beautiful music is always currant, and there is no need to separate classical and contemporary genres for her audience.

GéNIA is delighted to be introduced by the celebrity actress, TV and Radio presenter Jo Good, who loves GéNIA’s music. They will discuss the album, acknowledging the incredible production team who have helped GéNIA to make it possible: two-time BAFTA winner and six-time Emmy nominee, sound engineer Nigel Heath; producer Hayden Parsey, engineers Billi Halliday and Brad Rees; mastering engineer Cicely Balston from AIR Studios; the award-winning fashion designer José Hendo; photographer Maurice Sparrow and the artist Stefano Terranova.

Aiming to create an inspirational and relaxed event, the audience will be greeted with a refreshment, but as there is no bar available, the public is welcome to bring any drinks of their choice with them (apart from red wine as per the venue policy) to continue the celebratory evening.

We welcome everyone to the concert, so the entrance fee is by donation of your choice, but we would be grateful for your kind contribution of £25 as a recommended donation, which would also include a thank you gift from us, GéNIA’s first EP ‘Dreams of today, Thoughts of tomorrow’, which has been played on Classic FM.

GéNIA is excited to announce the new release: Aphrodite (Remix) by Nigel Heath

GéNIA is excited to announce the release of  the new single:

Aphrodite (Remix)

by Nigel Heath

Release Date 30 November 2018

Aphrodite Remix was created as a result of the collaboration between the renowned sound engineer, the double BAFTA award winning and six time Emmy nominated Nigel Heath and the Russian-born classical composer & pianist GéNIA.

This original piano piece was inspired by the story of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, who, according to Plato’s popular legend, was born in the foamy crests of the Aegean Sea. The captivating image of this beautiful woman rising through the waves was the original incentive behind the music.

Nigel Heath has enjoyed a long career in music and film and television sound and has passionately pushed the boundaries of sound with passion with his ground-breaking work.

Since founding Hackenbacker Studios in the early 90’s he has contributed to the sound tracks of an extensive list of film and television projects such as ‘Downton Abbey’, ‘Jamestown’ ‘The Death Of Stalin’, ‘Cold Feet’, ‘Four Lions’, In Bruges’, ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’, ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ and the critically acclaimed ‘Killing Eve’ often fusing together the worlds of sound design and music on the mixing board.

Heath has worked with such luminaries as Sir Paul McCartney, Chris Morris, Mike Figgis, Edgar Wright – the list is long!

GéNIA is also the founder of the Piano-Yoga® movement and author of ‘Piano-Yoga’® book, detailing the unique holistic method of playing piano which was featured in major UK and international music press.

In 2015 GéNIA was nominated as a Featured Classical Artist of Caffè Nero and in the same year launched a series of classical concerts at London’s Heathrow Airport in association with Caffè Nero, which were featured in The Times. Since then GéNIA’s music has been playing regularly in all branches of Caffè Nero worldwide, being heard by approximately 20,000 people a day.

Nigel heard GéNIA’s Aphrodite, and was moved to transform this original classical piece into ambient chill track after quickly realising that it could have a life in that genre.

The original piano solo ‘Aphrodite’ track has appeared in the smash hit BBC America series ‘Killing Eve’.

The track is already available for pre-order on iTunes and on the 30 November 2018 will be released worldwide.
